And tomorrow's clash between Rotherham Town and Barnsley has been given extra spice after a dramatic Yorkshire Leagues Knock Out Cup meeting on Monday, which saw Town win a low-scoring clash by two wickets - giving them their first win of a frustrating campaign so far.

Barnsley, who won the toss and elected to bat, posted just 122 all out, mainly thanks to Nathan Firn's 35, as Sajid Mahmood - Town's former England Test bowler - took 3-29 from his ten overs.

In reply, Town cruised to 97-3 before losing four wickets for 15 runs, as Oliver Jackson took 4-34. Jackson and Mahmood exchanged choice words after the latter lost his wicket, and four leg byes saw Town edge home by two wickets. Scott Hibbett top-scored with 30.

Town, the last South Yorkshire club in the Knock Out Cup, are set to face Woodhouse Grange in the next round of the coloured-clothing, pink-ball competition at Clifton Lane on July 3.

"There's sure to be a bit of needle this weekend after the tight finish last Monday, which saw Rotherham wickets tumble," a Town insider said.

"The win was big relief for Rotherham, who have a talented group but only came together just before the season. A huge boost to their confidence."
