Shoplifters in Sheffield have been targeted in their own homes – as part of a new police crackdown on retail crime in the city.
Officers swooped on more than 20 homes yesterday morning looking for shoplifting suspects.
The ‘day of action’ came in response to city crime figures which showed the offence is on the rise.
Sergeant Jonathan Greaves said: “We’re rounding up suspects of shoplifting offences with the intention of putting them before the court.
“We also have plain-clothes policemen working in many vulnerable shops across Sheffield, trying to prevent, deter and apprehend people who enter these premises with intentions to shoplift.”
