VIDEO: Point was least we deserved against Sheffield United, says Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander as he slams 'ridiculous' red card

Graham Alexander, the Scunthorpe United manager, says his side deserved at least a point against league leaders Sheffield United this afternoon.

Billy Sharp cancelled out Paddy Madden's opener to keep United five points clear at the top of League One, before Harry Toffolo was sent off for a second booking after hauling down Kieron Freeman.

And Alexander said: “Considering everything we faced today, I think a point was the least that we deserved.

“Sheffield United were the better team for the whole of the first-half but we weathered that storm and in the second halfwe were miles better. To go down to 10 men so early in the second-half and then to keep that point and nearly take all three with a shot that hit the post was a fantastic effort.

“The game is about inches – they also hit the post towards the end and it has gone back into Luke’s hands so you can say ifs and buts but I’m proud of what we’ve done here today in the second-half."

On the red card, Alexander said: "I thought it was a ridiculous decision, to be honest. It was a body check, 45 yards from goal, in a top of the table clash.

"We had to overcome a lot - a very good team, a hostile crowd and decisions against us, but we did and go home with a deserved point."
