Matt, a chef originally from Totley, now lives in Queenstown, New Zealand, and arrived back in Sheffield earlier today after travelling home via Sydney and Dubai.

The trip has cost the 28-year-old over £1,500 in flights alone; but he insists it’ll be worth every penny to see Carlos Carvalhal’s Owls take on Hull for a place in the Premier League.

“My mates back in New Zealand are saying I’m crazy,” Matt told The Star, “but they don’t understand my passion for Wednesday.

“I listen to every game on the internet, even though they kick off at 2am or 3am, and there were two other Wednesday fans on my flight from Sydney. Fans are coming from all over the world for this.

“Another reason I wanted to be there is so I could share the day with my Dad, Steve. He has had a season ticket for 50 years and took me to my first game.

“Since then, I’ve seen them lose 6-0 at Reading on a Tuesday night and play Carlisle away in the LDV Vans Trophy, and I’ve seen them almost everywhere inbetween, too.

“The chance to see Wednesday at Wembley was just one I couldn’t miss, no matter how far away I was, because who knows when we’ll be back there?

“I get back to New Zealand on Thursday, and go back to work the day after. But if Wednesday win, it’ll all be worth it.”
