Air ambulances will now be transporting patients with life-threatening injuries landing just yards away from A&E saving even more lives, hospital bosses have said.

This will cut out a three minute journey via ambulance from another helipad at the other end of the hospital.

The helipad can now accept major trauma patients from across the region, thanks to the generosity of residents and businesses who have helped to raise £2 million to build the facility.

The site will serve around 1.8 million people across four counties, covering South Yorkshire, parts of the Humber, Derbyshire and the East Midlands.
