VIDEO: Nelson expects to be back soon at Sheffield Steelers

That’s the positive spin that Sheffield Steelers winger Levi Nelson is putting on the broken bone in his wrist and ruptured knee tissues.

The 28-year-old forward, who 10 years ago was a draft pick for Boston Bruins, played 61 games for Steelers last year but has been forced to spend the last three matches of the new season on the sidelines.

“In the game against Braehead at home, I blocked a shot and unfortunately the wrist is broken.

“The medical staff have done a great job, getting x-rays and everything you need to get looked after properly. I don’t need surgery, so that’s a good thing, hopefully in another couple of weeks I will be back.”

Nelson said his knee was “the more tougher of the injuries...I tore my MCL (medial collateral ligament) so I have been playing with that for the last three or four

weeks but I guess it gives it a little bit of time to get better.”

Nelson has been enjoying watching the booming form of fellow Steeler forward Jesse Schultz, who has scored four in the past three games.

“He is a great hockey player, he has got a lot of confidence, he has scored some big goals for us, so if he is going and the guys are going then that is good.”

Nelson and Ben O’Connor (hamstring) will be out for this weekend’s two meetings with Cardiff Devils, away and home.
