VIDEO: Man in '˜serious' condition after stabbing on Sheffield Street

A man is in a '˜serious' condition after he was stabbed on a Sheffield street.

Officers were called to an incident on Morpeth Street, in the Netherthorpe area of Sheffield at about 12.40am this morning.

A 23-year-old man is believed to have suffered stab wounds as a result of the incident and is currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officers currently remain at the scene as they continue with enquiries.

South Yorkshire Police temporarily closed Morpeth Street between Upper Allen Street and Netherthorpe Road, but it has now reopened.

A forensics tent and a crime scene investigation van could be seen from the police cordon outside the Cavendish Works.

Police have issued an appeal for people to come forward with any information they may have.

Temporary Detective Inspector Graham Stead said: “I would like to reassure local residents that this incident is being treated as a priority.

“We will be reviewing CCTV footage of the surrounding areas and I would ask that anyone who has information about the incident to contact us.

“While I appreciate that this incident happened in the early hours of the morning, I would ask that anyone who was using the nearby petrol station or who was driving past the area and saw anything that could assist with the investigation to phone us on 101.”
