Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri is a big believer in stability, according to under-fire head coach Carlos Carvalhal.

Chansiri held a meeting with the Owls coaching staff and squad on Wednesday to discuss their inconsistent performances and results this season.

Wednesday, who welcome Barnsley to Hillsborough tomorrow (12:30pm), sit in 16th position after picking up just one victory from their last six Championship matches. The pressure is mounting on Carvalhal to arrest their slide down the table.

But speaking at the Supporter Steering Group meeting on Wednesday night, Chansiri reaffirmed his support for Carvalhal.

Chansiri said: “I still support Carlos 100 per cent.”

The Thai businessman’s public backing for Carvalhal brought a round of applause from the 30 fans in attendance.

“The chairman likes relationships over a long time,” said Carvalhal. “It’s something that he appreciates, and why he doesn’t sell many players, he tries to keep players.

“He doesn’t try to manage Sheffield Wednesday like a business, he tries to manage it like a family.

“You can understand why he gets good offers for players, he doesn’t want to sell them. He wants to keep everybody together.

“When I know that mentality, it is not a big surprise to me (that he supports me 100 per cent). We are here with a big commitment to the club, working hard - and people know we have quality.

“When you have that relationship, it’s not when you have a bad moment that you must change things.

“That is the easy thing to do. In the two and a bit years we have been here, we are not in a good period at this moment - that is a reality - but we are doing well, in my opinion, since we arrived. We have good quality, commitment, we put everybody together.”
