Based at home in the town famed for its Crooked Spire, Lawson’s bassist says that he gets to go back to his home in Old Whittington whenever the band is not on the road.

The 25-year old said that when he is away, he misses his family, friends and everything about the town.

“There’s a lot of history and culture there and it’s a great place to live,” said Ryan, who was speaking at signing session in Sheffield on Wednesday.

Guitarist and band-mate Joel Peat is from Mansfield and understands Ryan’s love for the area.

“It’s such a beautiful place . . . me and Ryan are very lucky to be from there,” he said.

Joel and Ryan met at music college as 18 year olds and eventually formed the band with Andy Brown and Adam Pitts.

The rest is history . . .

Since then, they have gone on to have several top-ten hits, a hit album, as well as perform in front of two sell-out shows at Wembley.

But home is where the heart is and last year’s Party at the Proact in Chesterfield saw Lawson bring their blend of pop-rock, alongside boyband Union J, back to Ryan’s home town for the first time.

And, unsurprisingly, it was a proud moment for him.

“It was weird seeing a lot of famous singers and artists and stuff in my home town playing five minutes away from where I grew up, so it was cool,” he said.

Fifteen-year-old Amy Sharpe, from Chesterfield, was excited to be at the signing on Wednesday and has been a fan of Lawson from the very beginning.

“It was amazing to see them at the Proact last year,” she said. “It’s a nice feeling when somebody that famous still thinks a lot about their home town.”

The boys love interacting with their fans and think that a signing is always the perfect way to do it.

“It’s been a while and we don’t always get to meet everybody at concerts, so at a signing we get the chance to actually meet people,” said drummer Adam Pitts.

Roads is the first release from their highly-anticipated sophomore album which will see the band taking a new turn.
