However, the Owls were dealt a blow in the first half of their Championship match against the Cottagers, when with the score at 0-0 Bannan was forced to come off with a recurrence of the groin injury that had kept him out of the side from December until late March.

Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay admitted there was a big concern surrounding the latest setback, this coming off the back of Sam Hutchinson also returning to the side only to again be ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Luhukay says Wednesday will wait for a few days before they learn the extent of Bannan's latest injury but he is definitely unavailable for Tuesday's match away to QPR.

"It is the same (injury) as it was before," said Lukukay. "I am not happy with that. We have also had two weeks ago with Sam, he came back from injury and he was also after two games not coming back and I hope it is not the same case with Barry.

"We must wait for the next days. For Tuesday he is not an option when we go to play Queens Park Rangers.

"We must now wait - the next two days we will know more, how bad it is for Barry and we must make a new solution for our team."

Bannan tweeted afterwards: "Hope injury isn’t too bad just maybe the 3 games in a week taking its toll on my groin hopefully back stronger next week thanks for your concern"

Bannan's exit saw Wednesday struggle to press Fulham in an attacking sense and having defended for much of the second half they were eventually beaten by Alexsander Mitrovic's goal which secured a win for the promotion-chasing visitors.
