For three hours, competitors of all ages crammed into the Market Place to have a go or simply watch the fun unfold as volunteers took it upon themselves to see who could toss the best pancakes.

Pancakes were also on sale outside Primark and in the Market Square with proceeds going to the Civic Mayor’s charities at the Doncaster Council-organised event.

Coun Tony Corden, cabinet member for customer, corporate and trading services, said: “Doncaster Markets have everything in stock for Pancake Day all year round including eggs, milk, sugar, flour and lemons.

“It was a great event and good to see so many people come along and enjoy the fun.” There was also fun to be had at Lakeside Village, which drew a week-long pancake flipping competition to a close.

The oulet’s ProCook store hosted the event as part of a nationwide contest to find out which of their customers could flip a pancake the most times in one minute.

Once all the pancake tossing is over, they will collate the scores from Procook stores across the country and work out how many pancake flips there have been over the week.

The customer who flipped the most across whole company will win £200 to spend in-store on cookware, kitchen and dining accessories.
