“What happens is when families come along they think they are going to get a conventional Christmas story and then suddenly the whole thing gets blown apart by this scientist who is trying to suck the Christmas spirit out of everything.

“We have to go all over the building to various secret locations to try and solve the problem and stop the characters doing things the wrong way around so we can make sure everyone gets to celebrate Christmas and take a little bit of Christmas home with them.”

59 Minutes To Save Christmas, brought to Sheffield by theatre company Slung Low, takes place around the Crucible until Thursday, December 24.

Tickets, priced £10, can be bought from the box office, by phone on 0114 2496000 or by visiting www.sheffieldtheatres.co.uk
