Carlos Carvalhal insists he is unconcerned over Sheffield Wednesday's lack of goals following their draw at fellow promotion contenders Brighton and Hove Albion.

Despite failing to find the back of the net for the third successive match, the Owls remain in the final Championship play-off position.

Indeed, Wednesday have fired blanks in four out of their last five outings but Carvalhal was pleased with their performance against Brighton.

The head coach said: “If we had come to Brighton, drawn 0-0 and stayed inside our area like some teams have done against us, then I would be concerned. But it is not like this. When we had the ball, we tried to win.

“Brighton had more of the ball but we were the more dangerous team on the pitch. We created chances. We had good situations so I am not concerned about this.”

Carvalhal, who rotated his squad, making five changes, including three to his backline, said: “I’m happy we kept a clean sheet.

“Of course, I would be more happy if we scored more goals.

“But we played like a team. We did fantastic team work. Everybody ran a lot.”

Although Wednesday have gone five matches without a win, Carvalhal is optimistic they will quickly get back to winning ways.

“All the teams have periods when they don’t win games,” he said. “We know as we didn’t win many points in the first seven games.

“We have not lost our confidence. We believe in our players and that we are in a good way.”

Wednesday will be boosted by the return of top-scorer Fernando Forestieri when they head to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The 12-goal forward has completed his two-match suspension.
