Fire crews were called to the Ski Village at about 6pm when the blaze on the site was first spotted.

Four engines attended to tackle the fire, which was described as a 'big, spectacular' fire by crews on the scene.

The fire itself was up on a hillside embankment and involved pieces of wooden structure, including ramps, ablaze.

The engines were linked together in order to pump water up to the spot, which was difficult to reach.

Watch Manager Jonathan Ward said: "Some wooden structures which are part of the Ski Village site were on fire.

"It was quite a big fire and spectacular looking but it was not out of control and there is no risk of spread.

"We had a lot of calls due to its location on the hillside.

"It was difficult for water supplies. We had four engines initially but reduced it to two.

"It's a deliberate fire."
