VIDEO: Forget Messi, here's Fessi - Sheffield Wednesday taking their lead from Barcelona, says Forestieri

Top-scorer Fernando Forestieri has revealed Sheffield Wednesday are striving to copy Barcelona's style of play under boss Carlos Carvalhal.

Forestieri made the admission after helping the Owls thrash 10-man Brentford 4-0 to stretch their unbeaten Championship run to seven. Strikes from Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Kieran Lee and substitute Lucas Joao ensured Wednesday secured a sixth win from their last seven Hillsborough matches.

The twelve-goal forward, nicknamed Fessi, says Wednesday are trying to emulate the Catalan outfit’s fast passing, pressing game.

“The third goal it was pass, pass, pass, like Barcelona,” Forestieri laughed. “No, Carlos says go to the pitch and play, but we train every single day.

“If someone lost the ball, me, Hooper, Nuhiu or someone is quick to get the ball back. We do this in training.

“I have never seen a coach in the Championship who has big ideas, a big mentality, because he thinks about Barcelona, Manchester City, big clubs.

“Look at Barcelona, they lose the ball, it doesn’t matter if it’s Messi, Neymar, everyone presses.

“We follow this idea, and now I think we are doing well, we need to carry on.”

Victory moved Carvalhal’s men up to fifth and means they are now five points clear of seventh-placed Birmingham City.

“Everyone is happy because we stay in the play-offs,” said Forestieri. “I like to think about the next game. We need to work hard every single day and we will see at the end of the season where we end up.”

Sam Hutchinson missed the Owls’ biggest victory of the season, having failed to recover from a knee problem, while skipper Glenn Loovens is still nursing a groin injury.#
