Rovers were dominant over the first half hour as they mounted a two goal cushion.

But relegated Bury fought back to lead in the second half until Rovers salvaged a 3-3 draw.

“I’m disappointed that we didn’t finish the job off, getting to 2-0,” Ferguson told The Star.

“It gets you to 56 points. You’re going to be in the top half, you’ve got a game in hand and you can see a really strong finish to the season.

“I still think we can but it was a missed opportunity.

“We felt it was a game we could win and when you go 2-0 up after half an hour you’re thinking you’ve got a hell of a chance.

“But the first goal for them is the one that changed the whole game.”

Ferguson admitted he felt Rovers had a slim chance of winning their final six games of the season to keep the pressure on those sides above them in League One.

“It was going to be difficult but if we beat Bury it becomes five games and four of them are at home,” he said.

“It would have been unbelievably hard but you just never know in football when you get that momentum.

“It would have been four wins in five.

“It was always going to be difficult. We’ve left it too late to find consistency, particularly turning draws into wins.”

Ferguson confirmed Mathieu Baudry missed the game with a hamstring strain but expects him to be fit to face Oxford United on Saturday.
