VIDEO: '˜Farewell Carrie' - Hundreds turn out to remember '˜precious' Caroline Everest

More than 300 people packed into a funeral chapel at Grenoside Crematorium to say farewell to Sheffield teenager Caroline Everest, who was known as Carrie.

The 18-year-old, of Exley Avenue, Walkley, died on her way home from a night out at the Corporation night club in Sheffield in the early hours of November 22, 2015.

Her body was discovered in the Porter Brook river on Summerfield Street, Sharrow, two days later.

Mourners were led into the funeral service to Maroon 5 song ‘She Will Be Loved,’ which has the opening lyric, ‘Beauty queen of only 18.’

Rev Phil Batchford paid tribute to Carrie on behalf of her parents, Val and Chris, during a moving service.

He said: “Her life approach was one of participant, not observer.

“She was a young woman who had so much to give, so much to live for.

“She was very precious, loved by all that knew her.

“In all the cards, messages and thoughts the family has received - it has had a huge impact on so many.

“They, with all the family, will never forget her and her radiant smile.”

Carrie, described as ‘witty and charming’ with ‘a cheeky sense of humour,’ was an avid Owls fan and would often watch Sheffield Wednesday with her brother, Rob.

The service was told of how a determined Carrie, while at college, walked up and down Hillsborough handing out CVs in order to find part-time work to fund her studies.

She later volunteered at a Barnardo’s charity shop before landing a job at B&M Bargains.

The Sheffield Hallam University student was in her first year of a biomedical science degree, getting the ‘best of both worlds’ in terms of student life and home comforts.

A keen and talented dancer, mourners were told Carrie excelled in different types of dance after taking it up at the age of four.

She had ballet exams coming up and had landed her first speaking role in a local panto before her tragic death.

Rev Batchford also told mourners that Carrie found out just before she died that she was to become an auntie.

He said she had so much to live for, and explained how she had already purchased all her Christmas presents for loved ones.

n Following an investigation, South Yorkshire Police last month confirmed that no one else was involved in Carrie’s death.
