Ferguson was frustrated at a lack of concentration from some of his players during the second half of Saturday’s goalless draw at Gillingham.

But he says he has no fears of his players downing tools after all-but mathematically securing their League One status with seven games to go.

“I will make sure they feel that they have got plenty to play for,” Ferguson told The Star. “There’s all different elements.

“Trying to stay in the team is one.

“Not letting our standards drop, finding a way of winning games and seeing where it takes us, you never know.

“I was disappointed we didn’t win the game but I was pleased with the effort the players gave and the commitment. It is always there from them.”

Rovers started Saturday’s trip to the Priestfield Stadium brightly but faded as half time approached and played out a lacklustre, even contest.

Ferguson admitted it was disappointing for the whole squad that the scheduled Easter Monday clash with AFC Wimbledon was postponed.

But he did not feel that had too much bearing on the Gillingham game.

“It didn’t really,” he said.

“We were looking forward to it. I could tell by the way they trained the day before that they were ready.

“They had real momentum. They haven’t lost that by drawing but we’ve got to make sure we go to Milton Keynes to try to win the game.

“It’ll be a hard game because they’ve got some very good players and it’s a big pitch. But it’s one we’re looking forward to.”

Rovers will today receive an update on midfielder Jordan Houghton, who picked up a knee injury in training on Friday.

Houghton has returned to parent club Chelsea for assessment, though Ferguson was confident he would be back with Rovers this week.
