Wednesday have won 20, drawn 18 and lost 11 of the 49 matches; the first of which, a 1-1 draw, took place at Anlaby Road - City’s ground at the time - on February 26, 1921.
Throughout this time, there have been many impressive displays by the Owls, none more so than a 6-0 victory at Hillsborough on March 1, 1952. The hero of the day, unsurprisingly, was Derek Dooley, with the Steel City’s favourite footballing son scoring four of the goals in the Division Two encounter.
Jackie Sewell, once English football’s most expensive footballer, also bagged a brace that day as the Owls headed towards the Division Two title - and promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Fast-forward a little under 40 years and that feat was being replicated by another Hillsbough legend... David Hirst.
The goalscoring hero also struck four times against the Tigers in a 5-1 win for Wednesday on September 1, in the promotion season of 1990/91.
Paul Williams got the other as Ron Atkinson’s men kept up a strong start which would see them go up to Division One via a third -placed finish. There they would stay until 2000.
In August 1972 four goals, again at Hillsborough, did the damage in another Division Two clash between the Yorkshire rivals.
Dave Sunley, who would eventually join Hull from Wednesday a few years later and spend two seasons there, opened the scoring.
Brian Joicey scored twice and Tommy Craig fired home from the penalty spot to secure a 4-2 victory for the Owls.
Since then, aside from that Hirst-inspired hammering in 1990, matches have been pretty even, with the odd goal normally winning it.
In all, only 11 of the 49 matches have been won by two or more goals and in the most recent of those, on January 12, 2013, the Owls managed a 3-1 success at the KC Stadium.
Reda Johnson had put Wednesday, then managed by Dave Jones, in front and a Robert Koren equaliser with seven minutes remaining looked like earning Hull a draw.
However, Eldin Jakupovic scored an own goal soon after and Michail Antonio added a third in the 90th minute to notch up a rare away win in the fixture.
