Dancers packed a punch at Hype Dance Company, fusing boxing and hip hop into a street performance inside a boxing ring.
The performance, called Savage Beauty has been devised by Anna Olejnicki, the artistic director of Sheffield company Hype Dance, with performers working alongside boxers at Brendan Ingle’s Wincobank gym. It includeded a voiceover by the famous trainer.
The event was a preview before the professsional dancers perform at the Hip Hop Dance Summit in Bournemouth and will then be shown around the UK.
Non-professional dancers will be asked to join in each city and this performance included young people from Sheffield.
Savage Beauty was produced alongside Boy Blue Entertainment & The Ingle Gym.
Hype Dance Company was founded by Anna Olejnicki in 2004 and has been running for 11 years. She said: When we were working with Ingle gym it inspired me to come up with this piece. We are hoping to get more dates across the UK.
“We are going back to the roots of boxing as we are performing outside and traditionally boxing used to be held outside at fairgrounds.”
