Of their five Championship matches on the road, the Owls have won just once, though it did reap one of their best performances of the campaign so far, in seeing off Fulham.

Only eight teams in the division - Barnsley, Reading, Millwall, QPR, Hull, Bolton, Burton and Birmingham - have a worse record on their travels than Wednesday at this stage of the season.

Now Carlos Carvalhal’s side are preparing for two games away from Hillsborough, with struggling Bolton Wanderers the first challenge this Saturday, followed by a journey to Pride Park to take on Derby County the following weekend.

Of course, what should help Wednesday, on paper at least, is the fact that while their record reads LWDDL on the road, Bolton’s home form is a shocking LLLLL.

However, while the Owls will have to start pulling in more points from their away games, one player believes they are on their way to doing just that.

Ross Wallace is of the opinion that there shouldn’t be too much heed taken to results away from home.

“I don’t think we are far away with our away performances. We conceded a couple of sloppy goals in the away games at Burton and Cardiff.

“We created a lot of chances in those games and could have picked up six points.

“We played some decent stuff and should have been out of sight.

“We didn’t have a clinical edge at Birmingham. The overall performance was good but we didn’t get the result we wanted.”

Wallace adds that key to registering more points, will be making sure that any opportunities that come their way are taken this time.

“When we are on top in game, we have to take our chances,” he said. “If we weren’t creating chances and playing well, I would be concerned. But we have actually been creating chances away from home. We have played some good stuff. We are not too with our away performances and we will be looking to improve that after the international break.”
