It is free to download and use, allowing users to send texts, emoticons, photos, videos and audio messages. It tells users when their message has been delivered and read.

But unlike other chat apps it gives away half of its revenues every week in a free draw of all its users, with a usual £1,000 first prize and hundreds of £25 and £5 winners.

This week’s first super draw first prize was £10,000.

Winner Anwar said: “When I got the call to say I had won £10,000 I was skeptical at first. We’ve all heard about people getting money calls. But when I was told it was Tengi, I thought ‘oh my God’. This doesn’t happen to me. My feet did feel like they were on the ground.

Anwar, who has launched his own building construction company, is going to use some of the money for a trip to Dubai which will be a family holiday with business thrown in, he says.

“I’ve been planning to go to Dubai and this makes it happen. I’ll also buy some gifts for my wife and two young boys. I donate £10 a month to Greenpeace, but they’ll get something extra from my win. It’s a dream come true.”

Anwar, of Nurser Place, in Bradford, isn’t the only regional winner - Tengi dished out hundreds of runner up cash prizes in its first Super Draw, as it does with its weekly draw every Friday, at 7pm.
