Carvalhal, who made 10 changes to his starting line-up, said: “Burnley are one of the strongest teams in the competition. They are a very good, compact team and did well against Arsenal in the cup. We lost concentration for their goal but we didn’t lose our balance. We tried to play our football in the game.

“Our players were probably a bit nervous but we missed some passes in the first half.

“I don’t know if it was down to the pitch but our midfielders don’t normally make some of those passes that we saw.

“We didn’t do a bad first half but we talked to the players at half-time and we were better in the second. It was more near how we can play.

“We moved the ball quicker. Our players played with a different speed and tried to find a second goal at the end.

“We have drawn the game but we were the team who looked most likely to win it.

“We accept the point. It was the correct score.”

Meanwhile, defender Tom Lees, fit-again following a hamstring injury, was on target as Owls Under-21s beat Nottingham Forest 2-0. Defender Michael Turner and Caolan Lavery were also given run-outs during the game.
