Though the Owls head coach wouldn’t state where he was pointing his dissatisfaction, he did feel that opinions were being formed which are potentially damaging to team morale at a critical stage of the season.

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated Yorkshire derby at Elland Road where sixth-placed Wednesday take on Leeds United who are in fifth, Carvalhal said it is his job to banish the ‘dark clouds’ so his players can no longer feel the ill-effects of negative comments.

“These type of people put like a virus to more people and more people and make a negative opinion,” he said.

“We don’t have any reason to be negative.

“We are healthy, we are playing in a derby, it is a sunny day, we are in a good position, we are the second best team in the last 16 games and we are ready for the game.

He added: “It is my work to put the dark clouds out because I know that these types of things make opinion. Some people are influenced by negative things. It is more easy to transfer the negative things than the positive things.

“But there are a lot of positive things than negatives so far.”

On the huge match, Carvalhal said: “(Garry) Monk is doing very good work, this is why they are in a good position but we are there, with the same points. It is a difficult game for both teams.”
