Carlos Carvalhal believes his Sheffield Wednesday squad has enough depth heading into the first game of the season against Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Portuguese admits he is still looking to add players to his ranks - particularly in defence - before the end of the month.

Tom Lees and Sam Hutchinson are the only two recognised fit central defenders in the squad while Daniel Pudil is the only left back.

But he has no concerns over the strength of his squad for Sunday's big kick off with a number of players versatile enough to cover.

"I don't feel we have any concerns," Carvalhal said.

"We have three full backs in training. We have two centre halves and Semedo can play centre half very well like he did against Nacional in Portugal, fantastic.

"Semedo is a fantastic professional. Like Sam Hutchinson he performs like a centre half not a midfielder. He recognises the position.

"Daniel Pudil can play centre half also like he did last season one or two times.

"On the left we have Daniel and Liam Palmer did well when he played left back.

"Of course if you ask me for the marathon of the season, we recover Glenn Loovens and we need more players.

"But to start we are strong. We have no problems."
