A national newspaper has suggested Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Brighton and Hove Albion with a January move for the striker, who has scored eight goals in 12 appearances this season. The same newspaper speculates Hooper could be sold for as little as £6million.

When Carvalhal was asked about the speculation as his latest pre-match press conference, the Owls' head coach said he was not aware of such talk.

"This is new to me," Carvalhal said. "I don't know what happened around.

"It is not a problem to me. I focus on my work, my players, try to improve my team and players.

"This kind of question is part of the circus again and I don't want to be part of the circus.

"I don't know nothing about that. I focus on my work. I understand you must put these kind of questions to me but my answer is I'm looking forward to the game at Bolton and preparing my team to play."

Wednesday have previously took a strong stance in relation to the status of their top players, emphatically insisting they are not for sale.

With chairman Dejphon Chansiri increasingly highlighting the constraints Financial Fair Play regulations could have on the club, it remains to be seen how strong Wednesday's resolve when it comes to hanging on to their players.

When asked if the situation at the club had changed, Carvalhal was similarly non-committal.

He said: "I don't know nothing about that. No one told me about that.

"I'm not reading the news so I'm a little aware of anything. It's not my reality.

"The things in the reality is if the chairman talks to me about this or another subject. That is a reality.

"He didn't talk with me about nothing so to me it is not reality.

"It is not something that is important to me and my team."
