The 29-year-old right winger has only played a handful of times for Sheffield Steelers, since moving from Fassa in Italy, but he likes what he has seen.

The 6ft 3ins Canadian believes his new club is still in with a shout of winning the league title.

But even if they fall short, he would like to come back and try again. Walker said while the Alps League was a little faster than the Elite League, he was pleased to see more structure and a better class om imports and goaltending in the UK.

“In terms of overall hockey and the skills of players, depth and goaltending, everything here is better” he said.

“I had a couple of offers (from other clubs) but had a good feel with Thommo. (Sheffield coach Paul Thompson.)

“We roll four lines, we can stay fresh and wear teams down when we are going. And we have guys that can put the puck in the net and a very good goalie. I think we have got it all here, it us up to us to keep on winning and put pressure on Cardiff.”

He said every team-mate believed they can retain the title. “We have just go to worry about our business and take care what we can control.

“I think we have got a very good chance still. As for next year, I’ll wait and see what happens. I’d love to play here everybody has treated me good so I’d definitely like to be back.”

* Rod Sarich is likely to play on Wednesday night, in Steelers’ home game with Edinburgh Capitals. Andreas Valdix and Colton Fretter both have knocks.
