It was the battle of the burgers at Sheffield’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre today as top restaurants served up their best beef for National Burger Day.
The Star took on the difficult task of tasting the finest burgers Meadowhall had to offer as part of celebrations at the centre for the annual occasion.
Reporter Alex Evans tucked into five eatery’s finest burgers in order to find out which one is the best bun.
Restaurants Nando’s, Handmade Burger Co., Coal, Las Iguanas and Ed’s Diner took part in the special challenge at Meadowhall’s Oasis - and all five provided a top quality burger which made judging difficult.
Nando’s entered a chicken burger while Handmade Burger Co. served up a delicious Mexican-inspired combination of beef and guacamole.
But it was Coal’s beef and pulled pork burger which narrowly won out, a combination of pork slow cooked for eight-and-a-half hours mixed with barbecue sauce and laid on two juicy beef steaks.
The Star handed Coal’s Scott Kennedy the certificate for winning Meadowhall’s Best Burger Competition 2015.
Meadowhall’s Caroline Jansacker said: “The burger competition was a fun way to show off what Meadowhall has to offer, and all the restaurants enjoyed getting involved in the challenge.”
