Lee Camp last night received The Star’s Millers Player of the Year prize at a ceremony in Sheffield after winning the club’s own Player of the Year and Players’ Player gongs last Saturday.

Hundreds of supporters on Facebook forums took part in a Star vote, and the landslide victor said: “I am delighted. To get any award is very special. To be recognised for your efforts and for people to appreciate you is very special and humbling.

“A special thank you goes out to the fans who voted for me. I just try to do my job consistently well and if people appreciate that then even better. I take a lot of pride in my performances.”

After Millers’ wins, the 31-year-old runs to the club’s followers who wait behind so they can cheer his delighted fist-pumping salute.

“I don’t know when it started, but I am getting a bit of stick from the lads!” he grinned. “It’s become one of my superstitions.

“It’s like me keeping the same gloves and boots. The gloves are hanging on by a thread; they have seen better days, my boots have seen better days. I have little superstitions.

“I don’t know why I do it. I think we won a game maybe before Christmas and the emotion got to me. I have got to keep it going. The fans appreciate it and it’s a bit of fun.”

Manager Neil Warnock, who has been nominated for the Skybet Championship Manager of the Month trophy for April after winning the March prize, received a Special Achievement award at last night’s Star event at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel.
