Part of Sheffield's iconic Park Hill flats was left damaged in an arson attack last night.

The blaze was started in a ground floor empty shop unit at the South Street complex at about 7.10pm.

Firefighters had to check accommodation above the shop unit to see if anyone was inside as a precaution but the site was empty.

A fire service spokesperson confirmed the blaze had been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Doncaster Central Fire Station were called out to deal with the fire.

A pile of litter was set alight in Royston Lane, Royston, at 9.50pm.

Firefighters from Cudworth Fire Station dealt with the blaze.

A caravan went up in flames in Storrs Bridge Lane, Loxley, at 10pm.

Crews from Elm Lane and Rivelin fire stations extinguished the blaze.

A Ford Fiesta car went up in flames in Foxhill Avenue, Burngreave, at 5am this morning.

Rivelin firefighters were called out to deal with the blaze, which had been started accidentally.
