Armed police surrounded a house following a raid on a Sheffield street today.
Residents were evacuated from homes as the drama unfolded on Miles Road, High Green, this afternoon.
The incident involved more than a dozen officers, some of them armed, police dogs, 10 police vehicles, undercover officers, and the force helicopter.
Some residents claimed shots had been fired on the street this morning.
Armed officers have also attended other properties on the estate and have made a number of arrests in connection with firearms offences.
Miles Road and Greengate Court were sealed off during the operation.
One man said: “I’ve been to see my daughter this morning and she said she was told gun shots were fired on the road.
“It’s quite scary really when you think about it. Watching it was like something you see on TV.”
One resident, who was evacuated from his property during the incident, said: “Police turned up about 8.15am and raided a property nearby.
“Then they came back at 12.15pm on Miles Road.
“There have been loads of police around all morning and the helicopter overhead.”
A crowd of more than 30 onlookers watched the drama.
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police executed a number of pre-planned warrants in the High Green area of Sheffield and attended at other addresses to make arrests.
“A number of people are currently in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.
“Searches at a number of properties are ongoing and enquiries continue.”
