Happy 90th birthday Your Majesty!
Yes, The Queen celebrates her milestone celebration today - and to toast her big day, we’ve delved back into our archives to dig out some pictures of her Royal visits to Doncaster down the years.
With her interest in horse racing, Her Majesty has been a regular visitor to Doncaster Racecourse over the years, enjoying the St Leger on a number of occasions.
You can watch this British Pathe clip of her visit to Town Moor in 1953 when she was greeted by cheering crowds shortly after her Coronation as she paid a visit to town to cheer on her own horse Aureole in that year’s running of the world’s oldest classic horse race.
Accompanied by Sir Winston Churchill in the Royal Box, the newly-crowned Queen could only watch the horse finish third, the race being won by Premonition.
But she has also undertaken a number of factory and community visits too and has met mayors, civic dignataries, councillors as well as scores of local people, workers, children and many more during her reign as monarch.
So celebrate her 90 years with a right royal trip down memory lane!
