A police probe is underway after two thieves escaped with jewellery after ambushing their victim in a Sheffield suburb.

They struck on a path running along Moss Way, Waterthorpe, and escaped with rings and a bracelet after their victim handed over his belongings fearing that the thieves might have been armed.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The victim was approached by two males who asked what he had.

"The victim, not knowing if the offenders had weapons, handed over a bracelet and rings.

"It was on the path that runs along side Moss Way into the woods on the right as you head away from the police station in the general direction Halfway.

"The offenders headed towards the new housing estate."

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
