The committee at Shiregreen Neighbourhood Centre, which is supported by Sanctuary Housing, is using International Volunteers Day to seek new volunteers to help deliver the wide variety of clubs and activities on offer.

Volunteers already perform an integral role at the centre, working in the Shiregreen Social Cafe, toddler groups and other services.

In the run-up to Christmas, volunteers will be getting into the festive spirit at special events including breakfast with Santa, Christmas dinner and a seasonal children’s party.

Chairman of Shiregreen Neighbourhood Care, Julie Fabian, said: “The work we do simply wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers.

"We offer a wide variety of services and as such we need people from all walks of life to help us continue our work in the local community.

"We take a real pride in everything we do.”

Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnerships manager, Melanie King, added: “Volunteers make a real difference not only to the work of the centre, but to most of the projects we support around the Shiregreen neighbourhood.
