Veto of flats is overturned

DEVELOPERS have been give the go-ahead to start work on a controversial plan to build flats on Thorne Road, Wheatley.

Doncaster Council had refused planning permission for Zuka Ltd’s plans to build seven apartments between 135 and 139 Thorne Road, but the decision was overturned on appeal by Government inspector Leslie Coop.

In a report, Mr Coop said he was confident the planned flats would complement the existing housing on the street, which is part of a conservation area, and would not cause road safety problems.

But he said car parking should be behind the buildings rather than in the front.
