STAFF and families at a South Yorkshire community nursery are reeling after vandals trashed their children’s Wendy house – then came back and smashed it up again.
The service for vulnerable families is housed within the Priory Family Centre, Lundwood, Barnsley, and is run by charity Barnardo’s.
Carole Aldam, service co-ordinator, said: “We can’t understand who would do this.
“It’s Christmas time and we are really disheartened by the whole thing.”
Carole said the thieves climbed over a fence and kicked in the front door of the Wendy house.
She said: “They ripped the side door off, broke the window and smashed up the things inside.
“Then they came back the next night and broke some more toys.”
“The nursery garden is used by lots of community groups and there is no charge.
“The toys and equipment are paid for by donations.
“We are in the middle of the community and are based here to help families.
“The donations are given by people who don’t have a lot of money and this is how they are repaid.
“The staff are very disappointed.”
The incident happened on the night of Tuesday, December 18 and has been reported to the police.
