A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “No matter what your thoughts on the police service are, this sort of behaviour is unacceptable.

“This vehicle was parked unattended on Berners Road, Sheffield, whilst the officer was visiting a complainant.

“A member of the public alerted the police that damage had been caused and it was evident that people had been standing on the vehicle to cause this.

“Taking a vehicle off the street means that officers can’t reach those in need of our assistance so, in actual fact, you’re endangering the public.

“Causing damage is a criminal offence and those responsible will be brought to justice.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number on May 5.
