Van driver ‘lucky to be alive’ after plunging down embankment near Sheffield

A van driver was lucky to escaped with his life after his vehicle plunged down an embankment.

Derbyshire Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit posted this picture of a van only just visible after the crash on the A61 this afternoon (November 25).

Officers said the driver had lost control on the main Sheffield to Chesterfield road near Dronfield, plunging metres down an embankment at the side of the road into a forest.

Amazingly, the man walked away with no injuries whatsover, promoting the officers who rescued him to joke it was his lucky day.

The team tweeted: "A61 Dronfield. Van driver loses control in wet weather. Climbs out and walks away from this with no injuries.

"A good day to buy a lottery ticket perhaps."
