A MAJOR gas mains upgrade is due to get under way in Dronfield next month.

Residents and businesses in the town are invited to a public meeting to find out the scheme, which will involve upgrading 28km of aging iron gas mains with plastic pipes that should last for 80 years.

The meeting is to be held at Dronfield Civic Centre on Monday, from 7pm.

Construction engineer Daryl Budworth said: “National Grid’s job is to connect people to the energy they use and this work will help to ensure safe and reliable gas supplies to businesses and residents for decades to come.”
