Blue bins and boxes that were due to be collected in Sheffield today will not be because of delays caused by the snowy weather - but extra waste will be taken.

Sheffield Council contractor Veolia said conditions over the weekend had resulted in a ‘period of delays’ to waste and recycling collections.

Blue bins and boxes due for collection today will not be completed.

Veolia said alternative arrangements and further information will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Workers are attempting to collect black bins in the areas of Ecclesall Road and Fulwood as scheduled today.

Black bin collections that were due, but could not be completed, on Saturday December 27 to substitute the normal collection day on Boxing Day will continue today.

The areas affected include Manor and Abbeydale.

A number of blue bin and box collections were not completed on Saturday and alternative arrangements will be made for these.

Residents are advised to leave their bin/boxes out until they have been emptied.

Coun Jayne Dunn, cabinet member for environment, said: “We are sorry for the delays to waste and recycling collections and are working to get these back on track as soon as we can.

“We will take bagged extra black bin waste that people can’t fit in their bins due to the delay in collections.

“Small amounts of extra cardboard will be taken if bundled at the side of the blue bin/box”.

Francis Drew, contract manager at Veolia, added: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank residents for their patience.

“We hope that the milder conditions forecast towards the end of the week will mean we can recover collections missed with the snow and ongoing icy conditions”.
