At the height of the incident there were four fire engines at the scene.

Crews battled to prevent the flames from spreading to neighbouring properties.

A police probe into the cause of the blaze has been launched.

Homeowner, Shelley Vaughan, aged 38, said: “I set off at 8.50am to go to work and by 9.25am my teenage daughter rang me saying 'the house is on fire'.

“I was panicking and jumped straight in a taxi from work. I got there and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, it was awful.

"My daughters weren’t sure where it was coming from at the time, or the neighbours, they didn’t know either.

"My girls and three of their friends got out fine thankfully.

“Back of my roof has completely gone through and collapsed - It’s terrible.”

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue group manager, Trevor Barnard, said: "Four crews responded to a fire that had developed just after 9.20am.

"When we arrived we realised the fire had been ongoing for some time unknown to us.

"Thankfully we have no casualties to report and neighbours have been checked over by paramedics.

"Crews have secured the property and isolated the fire from spreading."
