Update: Two men arrested by armed guards in Sheffield city centre

Armed police have reportedly arrested two men in Sheffield city centre.

Eye-witnesses have reported seeing a group of armed officers apprehend two men in Hartshead Square outside the Department for Work and Pensions building.

Around seven police vehicles pulled up at Hartshead Square before around 15 armed and unarmed police officers dealt with the men.

One witness reported hearing the two men shouting loudly before being handcuffed by the officers and led into the police van.

Another witness on the scene reported seeing a "black plastic pistol" being placed into an evidence bag by officers.

Police arrived on High Street at around 1.30pm and stretched between Santander and HMV before moving to the Job Centre on Meeting House Lane.
