UPDATE: Sheffield man accused of plotting to join Islamic State fighters

Shivan Hayder Azeez Zangana, aged 20, of Washington Road, Sharrow, is one of two Kurdish immigrants accused of trying to join the Salahaddin Battalion - a Kurdirish group fighting for IS.

Zangana, who uses the surname Aziz, appeared in court with Aras Mohammed Hamid, 26, of no fixed abode.

The pair appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London earlier today, along with Ahmad Ismail, 18, who is accused of failing to alert the authorities to the alleged plot.

Hamid was arrested in the back of a lorry in Dover on May 19, the court was told.

Aziz, who was allegedly planning to travel with him to Iraq and was arrested at a mosque in Birmingham, is charged with preparing acts of terrorism.

Hamid is charged with preparing an act of terrorism and assisting another to commit terrorist acts.

He also faces a charge of possessing a false identity document, a Bulgarian passport, with improper intention.

Ismail, who was arrested at his home in Portwrinkle Avenue, Coventry, is charged with failing to disclose information to police of an offence involving the preparation of an act of terrorism.

All three men have been remanded in custody and ordered to appear at the Old Bailey on June 23.
