UPDATE: Sheffield car crash suspect released under investigation

A man who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a car hit two pedestrians in Sheffield city centre on Wednesday night has been released under investigation.

The 20-year-old was arrested after a man was left fighting for life after being hit by a car close to Sheffield city centre.

Police said a blue Mercedes ‘A’ class car was in collision with two pedestrians in Headford Street, Broomhall, just after midnight on Wednesday night.

A 23-year-old man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police described his condition on Friday morning as ‘serious but stable’.

A second pedestrian, a 24-year-old man, received medical attention for minor injuries at the scene.

Dramatic pictures and video footage emerged in the immediate aftermath of the incident which showed a vehicle crashed into the side of a building.
