UPDATE: Police release dramatic images of multi-vehicle M1 crash

Police have released shocking images of a serious crash on the M1 which has caused severe delays for motorists this morning.

Derbyshire Roads Police tweeted the image at around 10am showing one overturned car and another which has been ripped in half.

Despite the dramatic pictures, police said that there were no serious injuries suffered in the crash.

The crash happened on the M1 Northbound between Junction 27, near Nottingham, and Junction 28, Mansfield.

The motorway was closed in both direction but two lanes have now been opened northbound pending recovery of the vehicles.

Motorists have been advised to use the ‘hollow black triangle’ diversion signs and exit the M1 at J26 onto the A610 heading through Codnor and around Ripley.

At the A61/A38(T) junction, head north on the A38(T)to rejoin the M1 northbound at J28.

Normal traffic conditions are expected to return between 12:45pm and 1pm.
