Two vehicles burst into flames on the northbound carriageway between junction 30 for Barlborough and junction 31 for Aston following a crash at around 6.20pm.

Highways England said the fire had damaged the road surface and expected it to be closed overnight while repairs were carried out.

But a spokesman said they have reopened one of the four lanes on the stretch and crews would work through the night to repair the damage.
