Could Sheffield Wednesday’s fans finally be able to purchase their team’s kit - more than two months after the 2017/18 campaign kicked off?

It is understood the Owls are optimistic the strips will be available to supporters later this week.

Sources close to Wednesday say a batch of kits were delivered a number of weeks ago but the Championship club have been waiting for a bigger shipment to arrive before launching it in store.

A series of delays have prevented the Owls, who decided to cut their ties with Sondico earlier this year and bring the manufacturing process in-house, from getting this season’s strips to market. It has left some sections of their fan-base deeply frustrated and unhappy.

After changing their supplier in the summer, Wednesday only unveiled the the designs of their new kit three days before the start of the season. Chief operating officier Joe Palmer apologised for the delay. Fans were told that replicas would be on sale by the end of August but that failed to materialise.

Wednesday then released a statement two days before the club’s annual Owls in the Park community fun day, confirming there had been another delay with the kit and fans would not be able to get their hands on the new strips at the event.
