The M1 motorway near Sheffield is closed this evening after vehicles involved in a crash caught fire and sent smoke billowing across the road.

A Highways England spokesman said the incident happened on the northbound carriageway between junction 30 for Barlborough and junction 31 for Aston at around 6.30pm.

The blaze has now been extinguished but the northbound carriageway remains closed between the two junctions and two lanes are also closed on the southbound carriageway.

Motorists have been told to expect delays.
