UPDATE: Hooded gunman robs Sheffield store

An '˜off his head' armed robber held-up a Sheffield supermarket and then dropped all the cash outside the store, according to residents.

Around 9.10pm last night police received reports that a man wearing a hooded top walked into the Asda store in South Road, Walkley, before threatening staff and customers.

The man demanded cash from the till, which was handed over, before fleeing on foot.

According to residents, the robber dropped cash on the road outside as he made his getaway.

Police confirmed they arrived at the scene within ten minutes.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “It is reported that a man wearing a hooded top, pulled tightly around his face, walked into the Asda store in South Road before threatening staff and customers.

“The man is believed to have been carrying a gun and has demanded cash from the till. A quantity of cash has been handed over, before the man has left the shop on foot, heading towards Walkley Road.

“He is described as white and about 6ft tall. The gun was not fired and no one was injured during the incident.”

A police cordon was erected around the Asda store in South Road, Walkley, last night, with local residents claiming an armed robbery had taken place.

A Walkely resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “A man’s gone into the shop with a gun. He’s come out and then dropped all the money on the road.

“This guy was off his head. Someone said he had a hand gun, someone said he had a rifle.

Asda have yet to comment on the incident.
