There were fears that the band would not be able play - news that brought equal dismay and delight to football fans attending England’s opening tournament match against Russia in Marseille on Saturday night.

It was reported that the FA had failed to make an official request to Uefa in order to have the band’s attendance approved due to heightened security measures after last November’s terror attacks in Paris.

The band is led by John Hemmingham and started out the Wednesday Kop Band in 1993.

Uefa has now confirmed that it had been submitted and the band will be allowed in to matches.
